Another wonderful growing season has come and gone! The next round of seedlings and bulbs are in the ground and waiting for warmer weather to come around. It’s amazing how resilient these little plants can be! Cold winds and rain are normal in our winters. While we don’t get as cold as many places in the country, the temperatures still dip pretty low. However, despite these little plants sitting outdoors shivering, they produce amazing roots systems that allow them to get a huge jump start once the warmer temperatures start. This fall, we put in over 10,000 seedlings and 10,000 bulbs! That’s a lot of flowers! A few didn’t make it, but most are doing great! We still have quite a few more of our more sensitive cold weather flowers to plant out in February. On the list is more snapdragons, statice, strawflowers, queen anne’s lace and of course LISIANTHUS! We will also be trialing a new variety of sunflowers this winter. It is a variety that is supposed to be more cold hardy than others and has been bred for winter production. Hopefully that means that we can get sunflower blooms sooner. The first shipment of lily bulbs is due to arrive next week and we will get them planted in their crates right away. The hope is to have beautiful lilies for Mother’s Day. The tulips were planted a little later than normal this season. It doesn’t look like they will be ready in time for Valentines Day this year, but we will be excited to see them whenever they do start to poke their heads out of the ground. Our weekly bouquet subscription is now updated and live on the website. If you are a flower fanatic, or you know someone who is, it is a great gift to give for the season (it’s a pretty good deal too). Thank you for all your support for our little farm and we can’t wait to be bringing you great flowers soon!
