Farm Fresh Flowers: Care Guide
What to do with a bouquet of flowers? Keep them fresh and beautiful with these tips for helping your fresh cut flowers to last longer!
You don’t need a flower care instruction card – just refer to this page for info on how to take care of your flowers in vase or even a bag of water, plus general flower care.
1. Don’t leave your fresh cut flowers in a hot car or in direct sunlight.
Heat will cause fresh flowers to wilt and they may be difficult to rehydrate once this happens. Keep your flowers out of direct sunlight and in a comfortable, temperature regulated room.
2. Put your flowers in a clean vase.
One thing many people forget when they get their flowers home is that they need a clean vessel to live in. The vessel should be cleaned with warm, soapy water, similar to your kitchen dishes. It should be clean enough that you would take a drink out of it!
3. Use flower food for vase according to directions.
Flower food provides nutrients that helps fresh cut flowers last longer. On the day you bring your flowers home, mix the provided flower food packet with fresh, clean water and add to your vase. You do not need to add flower food to the water after this initial drink.
4. Change the water in your vase every other day.
Fresh flowers get thirsty and you’ll notice they drink more water than most store bought bouquets. Changing the water every other day will add DAYS of vase life to your flowers. Dirty water is the #1 killer of cut flowers!
5. Trim the flower stems every other day.
Trimming 1/8th of an inch off of the stems every other day will give you an extra day or 2 with your blooms.
